Hi my loves! I’ve decided that I am going to be Mixing It Up and sharing some bite-sized pieces here, alongside their longer and more heartfelt counterparts, to add some delightfully more frivolous fare to the girlhood menu. (Tap ❤️ the above to say yum, yes, yup, I’m in.)
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I am in the mood to sit down with a cup of tea and dive deep into someone’s thoughts on the mysteries of the universe / trials of the heart etc, and sometimes I just want a little treat that will tide me over, a morsel, a literary hors d'oeuvre, until my brain is ready to digest something more substantive.
So here I present to you the first of a series I am calling ‘snacking on.’ Yep. I just made that up right now and you know what, I think I will stick to it.
I know some of you are new here (yay, welcome!), and that even for those of you who go wayyy back, it’s possible that our relationship is a bit anonymous and…digital? And in an homage to the fact that this is a very human newsletter, I thought what better way to break the ice than sharing some of my very human weaknesses.
So here they are, an incomplete list, and in no particular order:
weaknesses
locating my keys in my purse
going anywhere without Google Maps
saying ‘no, thanks’ when the waiter asks if we’d like to see dessert menus; even when I’ve already unbuttoned my pants, I will always want to see the dessert menu.
fuzzy slippers
a little treat from the bakery
Addison Rae (I know I know, but just trust me, have you heard Diet Pepsi?!!! here you go. you’re welcome.)
restaurants where you sit on the floor criss-cross apple sauce
apple sauce
the British guy from The Idea of You
Anne Hathaway’s bangs in The Idea of You
Anne Hathaway’s house in The Idea of You1 (a bohemian bungalow that dreams are made of)
a sunset. every sunset is so spectacular. but my weakness is that if I’m going to watch one, I’m going to do it properly, e.g. set up shop and watch the sky for an inconveniently long time to catch all the different colors and after-glow until everything fades to black and the stars and moon come out
handwritten notes
a local bookstore
Channing Tatum in Step Up
actually any movie with a plot driven by rival dance / cheer teams
actually any movie with Channing Tatum
handle-less mugs
teeny little bowls (I have collected so many. I think I sometimes truly believe I can solve most of my problems by accumulating these teeny ceramic bowls to adorn my desks and shelves. I am overflowing.)
Australian slang, like ‘arvo’ and ‘knackered’ and ‘heaps good’
the entire continent of Australia
people who thoughtfully sort their recycling
Nutella
the sound of rain
And with that I must say ciao (another weakness; how cute is ‘ciao’?!!). I realize I could keep going for a very long time but then this would simply no longer be a snack. It would be an entree, and dinner’s not ready, we are still cooking. (As in, don’t worry, there will be longer and more cerebral pieces to follow…eventually.)
Hooroo and g’day mate!
Xo,
Eden
Realizing it might sound like I’m really into this movie, but I just watched it on a plane over Thanksgiving and what can I say, the bangs really left an impression. As did that green Silver Lake bungalow. And British heartthrob. (But like…I’m usually into really serious and important and worldly movies?? Add those to my list of weaknesses pronto?)
